Research Strands

The CRE in Offender Health prioritises two overall research themes – mental health and infectious diseases – both are in line with national priority areas and reflect the burden of diseases posed by these areas on the offender population.  The CRE aims to generate new knowledge and address policy-relevant questions relating to violence, alcohol use, Aboriginal health, disease burden, the threat posed by infectious diseases, and diversion away from prison and into treatment.  These aims will be achieved via three research strands focusing on surveillance and monitoring, treatment Interventions, and evaluation.
